TUCSON, Ariz. - The top-ranked Stanford women's soccer team defeated host Arizona, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium.

The Cardinal remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 15-0-2 overall and 6-0 in the Pac-10 Conference. The Wildcats, who earned their first-ever victory over California on Friday night, dropped to 5-9-2 overall and 1-4 in league action.

The Wildcats hung tough in the opening period after facing 12 Stanford shots and four corner kicks. Goalkeeper Ashley Jett recorded a pair of saves, but All-American Christen Press netted the game's first goal in the 16th minute, her 19th goal of the season.

The game remained a one-goal differential until the 61st minute when Allison McCann scored off an assist from Teresa Noyola. The Cardinal extended the lead to 3-0 five minutes later with a goal by Lindsay Taylor in the 66th minute.

Arizona threatened with five shots of its own in the second half and put five of its eight total shots on goal in the game. But, Stanford goalkeeper Emily Oliver was steady in goal, recording five saves to keep a clean sheet against the Wildcats.

Jazmin Ponce led the Wildcats with three shots in the game, while Shannon Heinzler, who netted the game-winner in overtime on Friday, added two shots - both struck on goal and turned away by Oliver.

The Wildcats will travel to the Oregon schools this week to continue conference action. First up will be a match against the Oregon Ducks on Friday, Oct. 29, in Eugene, Ore.
