<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=2><B style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal"><SPAN style="mso-tab-count: 1"> </SPAN><?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on">TUCSON</st1:City>, <st1:State w:st="on">Ariz.</st1:State> ? </B><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Arizona</st1:State></st1:place> sophomore <B style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal"><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=222520"><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=222520">Preston Guilmet</A></A></B> has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the 2007 Roger Clemens Award, the Great Houston Baseball Association announced on Thursday.</FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p><FONT size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=2><SPAN style="mso-tab-count: 1"> </SPAN>The Clemens Award, presented annually to the nation&rsquo;s top collegiate pitcher, will be presented July 11 at the Inter-Continental Hotel Houston. <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Arizona</st1:place></st1:State>&rsquo;s Guilmet is one of only three sophomores to make the list of 10 and the only pitcher from the Pacific-10 Conference.</FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=2><SPAN style="mso-tab-count: 1"> </SPAN>The right-handed Guilmet is 10-1 this season with a Pac-10-leading 1.70 ERA. He has recorded a conference-high 119 strikeouts in 111 innings pitched while limiting the opposition to a lowly .207 batting average. He has four complete game wins to his credit this year, has thrown nine innings five times in 2007, has gone six or more innings in all 14 starts and has struck out nine or more batters in a start eight different times. He is the first <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Arizona</st1:place></st1:State> pitcher to be named a semifinalist for the award since its inception in 2004.</FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=2><SPAN style="mso-tab-count: 1"> </SPAN>Joining Guilmet on the semifinalist list are <B>Adrian Alaniz</B> of Texas, <B>Barry Enright</B><B style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal"> </B>of Pepperdine<B style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">, <SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">Bryan Henry</SPAN></B> of Florida State, <B>Brian Matusz</B> of San Diego, <B>Adam Mills</B> of Charlotte, <B>Kyle Nicholson</B> of Texas A&amp;M<SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">, <B>David Price</B></SPAN> of Vanderbilt, <B>Nick Schmidt</B> of Arkansas and <B>Jacob Thompson</B> of Virginia. This group includes three seniors, four juniors and three sophomores. Voters include all Division 1 head baseball coaches, a selection of national media who cover collegiate baseball, the 16 winners of the R. E. "Bob" Smith Award, which was presented to the top player in the country here in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Houston</st1:place></st1:City> in 1988-2003, and the 10 previous finalists for the Clemens Award. As a professional, Clemens has won 348 games (eighth best in history), fanned more than 4,600 batters and won and seven Cy Young Awards, emblematic as the top pitcher in his league.
