TUCSON, Ariz. - Six Arizona players scored in double digits as the Wildcats set a new school record by defeating Bowling Green, 99-43, with a 56 point margin of victory in the first game of the Arizona Basketball Classic on Friday.
The leading scorer for Arizona (5-1) was junior forward Elizabeth Pickney with 20 points. Pickney was 4-for-4 from the free throw line and pulled down five rebounds. Junior guard Tysell Bozeman tied her career high with 16 points; she also grabbed seven rebounds, six assists and four steals.
"I am so impressed with Tysell. She is so coachable and is the emotional leader on this team. I am so proud of her," said Arizona head coach Joan Bonvicini. "The passes she makes really pumps up the team, and I think that she did her job very well tonight."
Senior guard Reshea Bristol posted 14 points and eight assists, while junior center LaKeisha Taylor scored a career high of 14 points and had nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Krista Warren had a double-double for the Wildcats, with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Candice Allen also scored in double digits, with 12 points.
Arizona opened the game with a 10-0 run and never looked back. The Cats led by 22 points (45-23) at the break, then opened the second half with a 30-9 run.
Bowling Green (2-5) will take on Fresno State Saturday, Dec. 9 at 4 p.m. in the second game of the Arizona Basketball Classic in the McKale Center. Admission to that contest is free. The Wildcats will then play Fresno State on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m.
