Arizona junior gymnast Sarah Tomczyk scored a 9.775 on floor at the NCAA National Meet Thursday, April 16 in Lincoln, Neb. to close out the season for the Gymcats.
Tomczyk was the only Gymcat to compete in the national meet, which continues through the weekend. She competed in Session I of the meet, with Session II later tonight.
"She did a great job," Arizona head coach Bill Ryden said. "She had a few wobbles that you just can't have at this meet, but her routine was one of the best in the country."
The Napierville, Ill. native earned a spot in Nationals by winning the South Central Regional floor event with a 9.9 score on April 4 in Fayetteville, Ark.
This was the redshirt junior's first taste of the national meet and will play a big leadership role for the team in 2010.
On the season, Tomczyk posted a career-high on floor with a 9.925 against Brown and Wisconsin-Stout. She was also named to the All-Pac 10 First Team for floor and to the conference's All-Academic Second Team.
"Sarah had a great set and carried herself well," said Ryden. "She represented our team and the university well and we're proud of her."
