Arizona Volleyball Gears Up for Wildcat Classic

TUCSON, Ariz. -

Arizona Volleyball will host the Wildcat Classic on Friday, Sept. 2 and Saturday, Sept. 3, with matches beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at McKale Center. The Wildcats will kick off the tournament with Presbyterian College at 10:30 a.m. on Friday and play Cal State Fullerton at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Arizona will take on Eastern Washington at 12:30 p.m.

Arizona (2-1, 0-0) is coming off a pair of wins versus Wichita State and San Francisco and a loss to No. 10 Hawaii on its home court in the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational last weekend.

Senior Courtney Karst (Centennial, Colo.) and freshman Madi Kingdon (Phoenix, Ariz.) were two of seven selected to the all-tournament team at the invitational. Karst recorded a team-high .315 hitting percentage with 28 kills to only five errors in three games. In her Wildcat debut, Kingdon registered a team-high 31 kills and 21 digs in three games.

Senior Cursty Jackson (Los Angeles) led the team in blocks with 15 total (3 solo) and added nine service aces, while senior Marketa Hanzlova (Liberec, Czech Republic) was steady for Arizona, contributing 25 kills and 35 digs.

Presbyterian College, coached by Chris Belshe, returned three starters to a team that finished 13-18 in 2010. Andrea Barman led Presbyterian in 2010 with 171 kills and a .245 hitting percentage. The Blue Hose is 0-2 coming into the Wildcat Classic, dropping matches to William & Mary and Furman.

Cal State Fullerton, coached by Carolyn Zimmerman, won the Big West Conference Championship in 2010 after finishing 26-6. The Titans return four starters and feature six newcomers, coming into Tucson 1-2 after defeating Quinnipac and falling to Loyola Marymount and UCLA.

Eastern Washington, coached by Miles Kydd, finished 8-19 in 2010. The Eagles return five starters and welcome seven players to the team. EWU goes into Wednesday night's game versus Boise State 1-2 after defeating Washington State and falling to Seattle and Santa Clara.
