Host UCF led sixth seeded Arizona by two strokes heading into today, and the two teams shot identical rounds of 277 (-7), bringing the teams to (-23) and (-21) respectively. The third place team, Georgia sits ten strokes behind the Wildcats. Georgia, the top seed in the regional, fired a 275 (-9), the lowest round of the day, to climb from seventh place into third. The Bulldogs are eleven under for the tournament. At ten under, Charlotte is in fourth. South Carolina and Kentucky are tied for fifth with scores of 560 (-8),
For the second straight day, Tarquin MacManus shot the lowest round of any golfer. His 66 (-5) improved him to 129 (-13) on the tournament, giving him a five stroke lead. Leader UCF is led by David Johnson who fired a 68 Friday to jump into second place. Charlotte has two golfers tied for third: Corey Nagy and Stefan Wiedergruen. The duo sits seven under. There is a two way tie for fifth.
Included in that tie is Tyler Neal, who trails teammate MacManus by seven strokes. Neal used a 67 (-4) to climb into the top five from fourteenth. Phil Bagdade is tied for fifteenth at three under. Jonathan Khan was one over on the day, dropping him into a tie for 37th. Rich Saferian shot his second consecutive 72 (+1); the sophomore is tied for 44th.
Arizona is in good position to post a top five finish in the Regional, qualifying it for the NCAA Championships, held in Toledo, Ohio at the Inverness Club, May 26-30. If the Wildcats were to fall out of the top five, Tarquin MacManus would likely still qualify for the NCAA Championship. The winner from each Regional advances to the national title regardless of his team's performance. In this case, MacManus would compete as an individual.
The Southeast Regional is contested at the Red Tail Golf Club, a par 71, 7,152 yard course. The 18 hole conclusion will be held tomorrow with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. eastern time.
