OJAI, Calif. - The Wildcats completed the second day of the four day Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif. After being the only Wildcat to survive yesterday's first and second round singles competition, junior Dianne Hollands won her match today to advance to the semifinals in the main flight of Pac-10 singles draw. Hollands and fellow junior Maja Mlakar won two matches today as a doubles team to advance into the semifinals of the main flight of Pac-10 doubles competition.
In the main flight of Pac-10 singles competition, junior Dianne Hollands competed against No. 21 ranked Dea Sumantri of Washington in quarterfinal action. Hollands lost 6-1 in the first set. She then came back to win the last two sets of the match for the overall win, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5. She will compete tomorrow against No. 3 ranked Raquel Kops-Jones of California. Kops-Jones is 23-6 on the season. One of those six losses came on April 10th to Hollands.
In the main flight of Pac-10 doubles competition, Hollands and Mlakar teamed up to defeat ASU's Pilecka and Sureephong, 8-4. The juniors then went on to win against USC's team of Diane Matias and Anca Anastasiu. They will compete in tomorrow's semifinals against Stanford's Alice Barnes and Erin Burdette. Arizona's other two doubles teams both lost in their round of 16 matches.
The tournament will resume tomorrow morning in Ojai, Calif. The finals for both singles and doubles will take place on Sunday, April 25.
