BERKELEY, Calif. ?- The No. 6 Arizona volleyball team fell in four games (30-26, 27-30, 23-30, 27-30) to No. 18 California at Haas Pavilion tonight. With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 17-5 overall and 9-5 in the Pac-10.
Arizona hit .151 on the match, compared to the .188 of California. The Wildcats out-blocked the Bears 11-10, but committed 16 service errors to Cal’s eight.
“It’s obviously disappointing to lose,” Head Coach David Rubio said. “Cal played terrific, but we sealed our own fate by committing too many errors. We lost to a team wearing the same uniform tonight. We need to regroup and get ready for Stanford tomorrow.”
Senior Kim Glass led Arizona with 25 kills and 12 digs for her 15th double-double of the season, while fellow senior Jennifer Abernathy chipped in 14 kills and 14 digs. It was her 10th double-double of the year. She also had four blocks.
Sophomore setter Amy Dyck split playing time with junior setter Stephanie Butkus, who saw her first major action since injuring her knee against UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 8. Dyck dished out 32 assists, while Butkus has 18.
Arizona faces No. 4 Stanford at 7 p.m. (PT) tomorrow, Nov. 11. The Wildcats defeated the Cardinal in five games in the teams’ first meeting this season on Oct. 13 in Tucson.
