Arizona Swimming Hosts Wisconsin

TUCSON, Ariz. -

Head coach Eric Hansen and the Arizona Swimming team welcome Wisconsin to Hillenbrand Aquatic Center on Friday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. The Wildcats are coming off victories over UNLV on Oct. 21 and Kansas on Oct. 8.

Hansen is in his first season at Arizona after spending 12 years coaching at Wisconsin.

The Arizona women are led by senior Alyssa Anderson (Granite City, Calif.), who has earned six first-place finishes in two meets so far this season. Sophomore Margo Geer (Milford Center, Ohio) has not lost an event this season in eight events and sophomore Sarah Denninghoff (Tucson, Ariz.) has added seven first-place finishes.

In addition, Denninghoff has joined several teammates in four relay races that have gone undefeated in two meets.

The Arizona men's swimming team is led by senior and two-time National Champion Cory Chitwood (Union, Ky.) who will make his season-debut this weekend against the Badgers.

Sophomore Tommy Gutman (Jacksonville, Fla.) recorded a team-high four first-place finishes against UNLV and sophomores Giles Smith (Baltimore, Md.) and Mitchell Friedemann (Allenton, Wis.) added three each.

The Wisconsin team opened the 2011-12 season in a split meet versus Milwaukee where the women came out victorious and the men dropped. The Badgers suffered a loss from both the men and women against Iowa, but followed up with victories versus Minnesota.

On the women's side, Ashley Wanland leads Wisconsin after earning a silver medal at the Pan-America Games and posting the nation's best time in the 100 breast with her time of 1:01.70.

Dan Lester leads the men's team after posting posted two top-10 conference times against Minnesota, placing second in the 100 and 200 fly. He also claimed first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.12.

The meet is open to the public for free admission.
