TUCSON - University of Arizona sophomore running back Ka'Deem Carey has been named the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas Pac-12 Player of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday. The MAACO Bowl Las Vegas is now in its second season of conducting weekly Facebook player-of-the-week polls, driven by fan votes, recognizing exemplary on-field play within the two Bowl affiliated conferences, the Pac-12 and Mountain West.
Carey rushed for 126 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries while also catching four passes, including one for another score, in the Wildcats' 59-38 upset win over then-No. 18 Oklahoma State. Carey's first score punctuated a furious first-half scoring run that saw Arizona overcome an early 14-0 deficit to take a 23-14 lead into halftime. The Wildcats opened the second half with a 13-play, 75-yard drive highlighted by Carey's 13-yard receiving touchdown to push the margin to 30-14.
From there, Carey and the Wildcats asserted themselves in the ground game. He rushed 12 times for 99 yards in the second half, an average of 8.3 yards per attempt, including fourth-quarter scores of 25-yards and 1-yard to finish off the Cowboys.
Carey topped 100 yards for the second-straight game, and with 273 total rushing yards, ranks second in the Pac-12 and ninth nationally in rushing yards. His 24 points scored on Saturday night tied five other Wildcats for third-most in single game history at the school.
The Wildcats will host South Carolina State on Sat., Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Arizona Stadium. The game will air on the Pac-12 Networks. Tickets are available at the McKale Center Ticket office, by visiting ArizonaWildcats.com or by calling 520-621-2287 or 1-800-452-CATS.
