TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 25 Arizona women's tennis team will host No. 9 Arizona State in the final home match of the season on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. MDT. Arizona State edged Arizona earlier this season, 4-3. The Wildcats are coming off two straight losses in California as they fell to No. 15 California and No. 3 Stanford last weekend.
Rankings: Arizona, ranked No. 25, fell four spots in the ITA rankings this week after losing their previous two matches. No. 18 freshman Maja Mlakar is the top ranked singles player for the Wildcats. Joining her in the rankings is sophomore Debbie Larocque, No. 72, and freshman Dianne Hollands, No. 91. The top-ranked doubles team for Arizona is Mlakar and Larocque, currently sitting at No. 9.
Last Time Out: The Wildcats swept the doubles matches but won only one singles match to fall to No. 15 California, 5-2. Debbie Larocque earned the singles win for the Cats, upsetting No. 36 Raquel Kops-Jones, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. In doubles play, No. 13 Mlakar and Larocque defeated Cal's No. 17 duo of Kops-Jones and Jody Scheldt.
Records: Arizona currently sits at 10-12 and will go for their 11th win of the year against the Sun Devils. The Wildcats have a 5-10 record against teams ranked by the ITA this season. Individually for the Cats, Mlakar and Larocque lead the team with 20 singles victories apiece. In doubles, Hollands and senior Brooke Taylor have tallied an 8-5 record this spring, second on the team to Mlakar and Larocque's record of 15-8.
