TUCSON - Hillenbrand Invitational

Game 11 - Northern Iowa vs. North Texas (11 a.m.)

Northern Iowa won its second game in the Hillenbrand Invitational Sunday, 6-0 over North Texas. The Panthers improved to 2-2 in tourney play and 5-8 overall, while the Mean Green fell to 1-3 and 7-25.

UNI took a lead in the top of the second with a two-run single by Krystan Reed. Then in the third, Rachel Rogers singled and scored on Tracy Davis' triple, and Melissa King knocked in a run with a single and later scored on a fielder's choice when Reed got caught in a rundown trying to steal second.

Rogers knocked a home run to right field with one out in the fifth to make it 6-0. UNI pitcher Julie Phillips held the Mean Green to two hits, and Uju Ibekwe pitched the seventh without allowing a hit to close the game.

Game 10 - Indiana vs. Georgia Tech (9 a.m.)

Georgia Tech used a big first inning to set the tone in a 7-0 victory over Indiana in final-day action at the Hillenbrand Invitational softball tournament Sunday morning, and two Yellow Jacket pitchers took care of the rest with a combined no-hitter..

Jessica Sallinger threw five innings of perfect ball before walking the leadoff batter in the sixth, giving way to Sarah Wood, who no-hit the Hoosiers the rest of the way.

The Yellow Jackets sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning and scored six runs on five hits including a two-run single by Liz Bartle. Katie Donovan drew a bases-loaded walk to get the scoring started.

The combined no-hitter was the first in school history for the Jackets. GTU improved to 19-5 and was 3-1 in tourney play. Indiana dropped to 7-11 and 2-2.
