TUCSON, Ariz. -

COACH BUTTS ON DAY ONE OF PRACTICE

Arizona women’s basketball had its first official practice of the 2012-13 season on Monday at Richard Jefferson Gymnasium.

Head Coach Niya Butts, embarking on her fifth season at Arizona, welcomes five letterwinners back to the squad, including seniors Davellyn Whyte (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Cheylene Harper (Asheville, N.C.), juniors Erica Barnes (Sacramento, Calif.) and Candice Warthen (Warrenton, Ga.) and sophomore Layana White (Lancaster, Calif.).

The Wildcats also add eight newcomers to the court, including four junior transfers and four freshmen.

“The first day of practice—total excitement,” Butts said. “It’s probably the best first day we have had since I’ve been at Arizona.”

Arizona will spend the next five weeks practicing before starting competition with an exhibition game versus Grand Canyon on Monday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
