Arizona vs. Lehigh

Post-Game Quotes

Arizona Head Coach Joan Bonvicini: “Our defensive intensity really picked up, and we did a better job in the second half. We were more aware of where their shooters were, rebounded the ball and set our feet. Lehigh is a good basketball team, and we were fortunate to wear them down.”

“We had 12 turnovers in the first half and just three in the second half. I was definitely frustrated in the first half because of it, and thought we could be a lot more intense.”

“We were a lot better from three-point range today [than in past games]. The team has had a lot of practice and taken lots of reps, which brings much more confidence.”

“Ashley Whisonant played a great game. She really anticipates well, as seen in her seven assists to one turnover. Off the bench, Whitney Fields did a great job rebounding, and it was nice to see Jessica Arnold and Kelsey Burns shoot the ball well today.”

Junior guard Joy Hollingsworth: “At halftime coach fired us up.”

“Lehigh played a great game today. My hat goes off to them.”

“Our defense created our offense, which was the key to the game. The quick rotation keeps us fresh when we are out there trapping and pressing.”

“Coach B says that the reason to host a tournament is to win it, so that is what we are trying to do.”

Senior guard Natalie Jones: “I have been working on my shooting a lot, especially shooting the three.”

“We are just concentrating on Chicago State now, and if we play our game we will be okay.”

“The guards on this team have to have the confidence to keep shooting, even if we are in a slump.”

Lehigh Head Coach Sue Troyan

On overall tournament

“The Fiesta Bowl Classic is a great opportunity for us. We are limited in who we can play and it is a privilege to be a part of this tournament.”

On Arizona

“Arizona is a great team. We had great control the first half and kept up with them. The second half, they played really well and out ran us. The Pac-10 is definitely has a different pace. It is a lot more up-tempo.”
