TUCSON, Ariz.- The seventh-ranked Arizona volleyball team got back on the winning track with a four-game victory over Pac-10 rival California, Monday evening. The Wildcats, who improved to 9-3 for the season and 4-3 in the Pac-10, outperformed the Bears in all phases of the match. Game scores were 30-21, 30-23, 27-30, 30-21.
Arizona rebounded from a rare error prone attack against Stanford on Sunday to hit .306 against Cal, Monday night. The Wildcats collected 64 kills on 144 attempts with 20 errors, while limiting The Golden Bears to a .111 attack percentage. UA dominated at the net, tallying 13 team kills to UC Berkeley's four. The Wildcats also recorded 11 service aces on the night.
Individually, Lisa Rutledge led all players with a career-high tying 24 kills. The junior finished a .358 hitting percentage and nine digs. Classmate Shannon Torregrosa was the only other Wildcat to record double digit kills on the evening with 13. She also chipped in with a match-high tying 13 digs and five total blocks. Senior Jill Talbot posted nine kills and 13 digs in the win and setter Dana Burkholder dished out 49 assists and had 10 digs.
The Wildcats return home to host the Washington schools this weekend. Arizona will face Washington State at 8 p.m. in a pre-midnight madness match on Friday and Washington at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
