STANFORD, Calif. ?- The Arizona women's golf team finished ninth, Sunday after its final day of competition at the Stanford-Pepsi Intercollegiate in Stanford, Calif.
The Wildcats shot a 47-over-par 887 to trail tournament champion Arizona State by 35 strokes after the Sun Devils shot a 12-over-par 852. Pepperdine (857) and Washington (861) finished in second and third, respectively. UCLA finished in fourth by carding an 862 (+22). Tournament host, Stanford rounded out the top-five after shooting a 29-over-par 869.
Individually, junior Cassandra Kirkland tied for 2nd with Arizona State’s Louise Stahle and Pepperdine’s Rachel Kyono after shooting 3-under-par 207. This was an Arizona career low tournament for the native of Saint-Nom-La-Breteche, France.
Senior Miriam Kraschinski finished tied for 35th at 223. Junior Whitney Welch shot 226 (+16) to tie for 48th. Senior Mar Garcia tied for 65th at 21-over-par 231. Competing Individually for Arizona, sophomore Rachel Gavin finished 88th at 243 (+33).
Due to persistent back pain, junior Lani Elston withdrew Saturday from competition. The Spokane, Wash. native scored an 80 in Friday’s first round. Elston had success at the Wildcat’s last tournament in Nashville, Tenn. where the 5-7 junior finished tied for 16th after a season-low round of 72 in the final day.
The Wildcats will not take the course until Nov. 14-16 when they participate in the Hooters Collegiate Matchplay Championship in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
