EUGENE, Ore. -- Third-ranked Arizona scored seven runs on a handful of Oregon miscues in the sixth inning and downed the No. 22 Ducks, 8-3, Friday evening.
With the game tied at one after five innings, Kristen Arriola walked after being kept alive by a dropped fly ball earlier in the at-bat. Buchanan then reached on an error after laying down a sacrifice bunt, moving Arriola to third. Lauren Schutzler laid down a bunt single to load the bases, then Arriola and Buchanan scored on K'Lee Arredondo's fielder's choice and resulting error.
Stacie Chambers followed up with an RBI single, then Brigette Del Ponte added to her nation-leading RBI total with a two-run double to bring the margin to 6-1. Lini Koria drew a walk and Del Ponte later scored on a wild pitch. Koria was brought home a few batters later on a passed ball, making the score 8-1.
Arizona (41-8, 11-5 Pac-10) had opened the scoring in the second when Koria, who led off the inning with a double, was brought home on Schutzler's single.
UO (32-15, 7-9 Pac-10) tied it an inning later on an Arredondo error. The Cats finished the contest with two errors, bringing their total to seven gaffes in the last two games.
Fowler became the just the second freshman pitcher in Arizona history to record 30 wins in a season. Alicia Hollowell tallied 40 in 2003, her first year of action.
Fowler gave up one hit and issued 11 strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Akamine scattered four hits in two-thirds.
Mikayla Endicott (3-1) gave up just one earned run on eight hits, but walked nine. Brittany Rumfelt pitched 1.2 innings midway through the contest, allowing one hit.
The teams play at tomorrow at 1 p.m.
