HOUSTON--The Arizona women's tennis team suffered their first loss of the season Friday, in a 5-2 decision to Rice University.

The Cats won only one doubles match, with sophomore Sarah Landsman and senior Claire Rietsch defeated the No. 44 ranked duo of Jessica Jackson and Alex Rasch 8-4 in the No. 2 position.

In singles, Landsman defeated Julie Chao 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 2 position. The Wildcats' other win in doubles came in the No. 4 position with freshman Alexandrina Naydenova defeating Ana Guzman 7-6(4), 1-6, 6-4.

"Rice played a tough match today." Said head coach Vicky Maes, "They were aggressive in the doubles and very consistent in all the singles. I feel we didn't play our best tennis but that happens. We are ready to redeem ourselves tomorrow against Texas Tech and I have full confidence we will put ourselves in a position to win."

Up next, the Wildcats will take on Texas Tech on Saturday, February 13 at 11am.
