Women's Golf Tied for Ninth at NCAA Central Regional

ANN ARBOR, Mich. ?- The first round of the women’s NCAA Central Regional is complete and the Arizona women’s golf team sits in a tie for ninth place.  The Wildcats carded a thirteen-over par 297, fourteen strokes behind leader Southern Cal, who shot a one-under par 283, the only team to shoot under par on Thursday.


The top eight teams from each regional will compete in the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Daytona Beach, Fla., beginning May 22nd.


Vanderbilt’s Jacqui Concolino leads the field individually with a first round score of 67 (-4).


Junior Alison Walshe is leading the way for the Wildcats in a tie for 13th place with a score of 72 (+1).  The Westford, Mass., native carded a team high four birdies during the first round.


Sophomore Amanda Wilson is two strokes behind Walshe after carding a three-over par 74 to stand in a tie for 26th place.  Fellow sophomore Adriana Zwanck shot a 75 (+4) on Thursday to tie for 33rd place after 18 holes of play.


Junior Mary Jacobs is tied for 44th place with a score of 76 (+5).


Freshman Brittany Benvenuto is currently tied for 101st place after carding an 84 (+13) in the first round.


The tournament continues tomorrow with a second round tee time of 8 a.m. EST.
