Tucson, Ariz.?- Arizona Football Training Camp Notes and Quotes...

...The University of Arizona football team opened fall training camp Monday at Rincon Vista complex...An hour rain delay at Rincon forced the team to return to McKale Center on the UA campus to hold a walk through in the arena...After the rain had cleared the team ventured to it’s newly remodeled practice facility on campus...

...Head Coach Mike Stoops was encouraged by Monday’s practice “...You sit around and anticipate this day from week to week and prepare for this practice - the delay was somewhat discouraging, but we still got out and got some work in. You can tell we are much farther along then we were in the spring...looks like they understand what we are doing a little bit better. I was happy with the overall performance of both sides of the ball we obviously have a long way to go, but this team is going in the right track. I was happy with the young talent we were able to add to this football team, which will help make us better...”

...Once the team hit the practice field they work on individual drills, one-on-one drills, pass rush drills and team drills...along with the walk through drills inside McKale...

...Junior free safety Darrell Brooks described the anticipation of the evening’s practice to reporters...“We were in the dorms [last night], and were all anxious, it’s been a long time coming...I remember when the ASU game was over and I thought that was a long time until we get back out here...”

...Former Wildcat Glenn Parker was at Rincon Vista to view the 2004 Wildcats in action...

...Augustine Jimniez, the benefactor of the newly designed campus practice field was on hand to watch the Wildcats hold their first practice in the Jimniez Practice Facility...

...Senior tight end Steve Fleming did not see the rain as a damper on the enthusiasm of the team...“I don’t think the weather dampened anything, we were all excited to get out here...”

...During the hour-long weather delay, which kept the players on their buses, junior defensive end Marcus Smith entertained the team by being the “public service announcer” on the PA system of the bus...

...Junior Running Back Mike Bell was pleased and excited with the first practice...“I felt good, we made some mistakes, but it’s our first practice. We will fix them and come out a better team tomorrow...it was real intense today. I think we need that kind of thing...”

...The team will return to Rincon Vista complex at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday for their second practice of their fall training camp.
