Final Stats

TUCSON, Ariz.- UNC Wilmington extended Arizona's season high losing streak to four straight games with a 9-7 victory over the Wildcats at Frank Sancet Field Friday night. The loss, just the second at home for the Wildcats this season, drops Arizona's overall record 17-8. UNC Wilmington improves to 12-3 with the victory.

Trailing 7-3 in through six innings, the Wildcats rallied to tie the score at seven with four runs in the home half of the seventh, but came up on the losing end when the Seahawks plated a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning. Pinch hitter Peter Grimm scored Kiley Vaughn with the go-ahead run with no outs in the inning on a sacrifice fly.

Ronald Hill (1-0) picked up the win with 1.1 innings of hitless relief. Arizona's Chris Goodman (1-2) was charged with the loss, surrendering two runs in three innings out of the bullpen.

Led by Vaughn's 4-for-5 effort, Wilmington out-hit the Wildcats 14 to 13 in the game. The Seahawk shortstop drove in three runs and scored twice as well. Arizona's Chris Cunningham led the Wildcat attack with a pair of hits in four at bats, including his team leading sixth home run of the season. He finished the game with three RBIs and run scored.

The two schools will meet again tomorrow for the second game in the three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
