The Arizona Wildcat men's tennis team fell, 6-1, to the Oklahoma Sooners at Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla. Freshman Robin Chou earned the Cats' only point of the day earning his second singles win in as many matches.
The day began with doubles play where the Sooners swept the competition. On court one, Kieren Thompson and Sumeet Shinde were first to finish in an 8-1 loss to the No. 10-ranked team of Dane Webb and Costin Paval. Second to finish was the team of Mario Urquidi and Carlos Bermudez on court three. The duo fell 8-4 to Lawrence Formentera and David Pultr. Finally, on court two, Sebastian Ionescu and Giacomo Miccini dropped an 8-3 match to the 45th ranked team of Tsvetan Mihov and Peerakit Siributwong.
With the doubles point in favor of Oklahoma the match entered singles play where Chou earned his second singles win of the season.
Shinde was first to finish in his match against Guillermo Alcorta, on court two. The freshman from Pune, India was edged, 6-1, 6-0.
On court five, Thompson was second to finish. The Brisbane, Australia native fell, 6-3, 6-1, to Pultr.
Bermudez, on court four, clinched the first set, 6-4, against Siributwong. In the second set, Siributwong answered with a 6-1 win over Bermudez, forcing a third set. Siributwong clinched the third set, 6-0, to win the match. The loss marked the fourth point for the Sooners and clinched the match in their favor.
On court one, Miccini was next to finish in a close match with Mihov. The Recanati, Italy native dropped the first set, 6-4, and forced a seventh game in the second set but was ultimately downed, 7-5.
Earning Arizona's only point of the day was Chou on court six in only his second appearance in duel play. The freshman from Austin, Texas clinched his match against Formentera in straight sets. The 6-3, 6-4 win marked his second in the win column in as many outings.
Last to finish was Urquidi on court three. He clinched the first set, 6-3, over Webb who answered with a, 6-3, win in the second set and forced the match to enter a third set. In the third, the El Paso, Texas native was edged 6-4.
Arizona falls to 3-7 while Oklahoma improves to 5-2.
The Wildcats will return to LaNelle Robson Tennis Center to host San Diego State on March 10 at noon and New Mexico State on March 12 at 10 a.m.
