<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><STRONG><?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on">OKLAHOMA CITY</st1:City> ?</STRONG> USA Softball has named <st1:State w:st="on">Arizona</st1:State> junior pitcher <A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=77425"><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=77425">Taryne Mowatt</A></A> a Co-Player of the Week, for last week&rsquo;s efforts in which she spun two shutouts against rival <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Arizona</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">State</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">The Pac-10 also took note of Mowatt&rsquo;s dominance in the circle, as it tabbed her its Pitcher of the Week.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none">In Friday&rsquo;s 1-0 Arizona victory, Mowatt tossed a no-hitter, her second of the season and fourth of her career. She took a perfect game into the sixth inning, when it was broken up by an Arizona throwing error. The only additional baserunner Mowatt would allow was a seventh-inning walk. She struck out 11 Sun Devils in the contest.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none">In Saturday&rsquo;s outing, which aired live to a national television audience on ESPN2, Mowatt backed up Friday&rsquo;s gem with a two-hit shutout in which she walked none and struck out 10 in another 1-0 UA win. Mowatt&rsquo;s string of 10 hitless innings was finally broken in the 4th inning on Saturday, but no damage was done and Mowatt surrendered just one single the rest of the way in picking up her Pac-10-leading 21st win of the season.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none">For the week, Mowatt pitched 14 innings of shutout softball, allowing just the two hits and one walk, and striking out 21. She held ASU to a .045 batting average when it came into the series hitting .306.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none">Mowatt, a native of Corona, Calif., has pitched every inning of the Wildcats&rsquo; five Pac-10 games, and is second in Conference play with an ERA of 0.82, while holding Pac-10 opponents to a conference-low .104 batting average average.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none">The Wildcats (28-8, 4-1 Pac-10) moved up to No. 4 in this week&rsquo;s ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25. They play host to No. 12 Stanford on Friday, and California on Saturday and Sunday this week.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none">This is Mowatt&rsquo;s first USA Softball Player of the Week and fifth career Pac-10 weekly honor, tying her for third-most among active players.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"> </P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none">Mowatt shared the USA Softball honor with <st1:City w:st="on">Tulsa</st1:City>&rsquo;s Jackie Lawrence, who went 14-for-15 (.933) with 11 RBI in five Conference <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">USA</st1:place></st1:country-region> contests.</P>
