WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- With 11 letterwinners - including all five starters - returning from last year's Pac-10 Champion squad, STANFORD has been chosen by the league's women's basketball coaches as the favorite to win the 2003-04 Conference title. The Cardinal garnered eight first-place votes.

In 2002-03, Stanford won the Conference title with a 15-3 league mark, captured the State Farm Pac-10 Tournament title and finished with a 27-5 overall record. The Cardinal advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship.

Another NCAA Championship participant, ARIZONA, earned two first-place votes and was tabbed to finish second in 2003-04. The Wildcats tied for second place with WASHINGTON in the Conference race last season, with a 12-6 Pac-10 record. Stanford made its 16th straight NCAA Championship appearance in 2003, while the Wildcats reached the tourney for the first time in three years. The Huskies, who made their second NCAA Championship appearance in three years, were picked to finish third.

This is the fourth year in a row and fourth time overall that Stanford has been favored by the coaches to win the Conference title since the poll's inception in 1998-99.
