TUCSON, Ariz. ?- Junior C.J. Ziegler hit a pair of home runs and sophomore Preston Guilmet tossed 7 1/3 strong innings as Arizona snapped a two-game losing streak with a 9-2 win over Eastern Michigan at Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium on Friday. The victory improved the Wildcats to 12-4 on the season while the Eagles dropped to 1-7 with the loss.

Arizona jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on two-run double by Brad Glenn, but EMU rallied to tie the contest with a pair of runs on five hits in the top of the third.

The Wildcats answered back in the home half of the frame to retake the lead 5-2 on back-to-back two-out  solo homers by Ziegler and Glenn, their second straight contest going deep in consecutive at-bats, and an Erik Castro RBI-single that plated Jon Gaston from third.

Ziegler tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth with run-scoring fielder’s choice ground out and then added his second home run of the game in the bottom of the seventh to extend Arizona’s advantage to 7-2.

Freshman Robert Abel capped off the scoring for the Wildcats in the eighth with a RBI-triple to left field to plate classmate Dwight Childs from first before coming home on a passed ball to make it 9-2.

Meanwhile, Guilmet (3-0) worked around EMU’s two-run third by scattering seven hits over the next 4 1/3 innings to pick up his third victory of the year. The right-hander struck out five batters on the night and did not issue a walk on 113 pitches. Reliever Cory Burns tossed 1 2/3 perfect innings the rest of the way, including striking out the side in the ninth, to seal the victory.

Eastern Michigan's Jeff Fisher (0-2) was charged with the loss after giving up seven runs on 11 hits over 6 1/3 innings. He finished with six Ks and no walks.

Ziegler, who took over the team home run lead with his fifth and sixth bombs of the season, led a 14-hit UA attack, finishing 4 for 5 with three RBI and three runs scored. His multi-homer game was the first in his Wildcat career and the third of the year for a UA player.

Glenn added a pair of hits, including his fifth home run and sixth double of the year, and three RBI for the Wildcats in the win.

Arizona and Eastern Michigan will meet up for the second game of the three-game set on Saturday at 1 p.m. Left-hander Brad Mills (3-1) is the scheduled starter for the Wildcats.

Notes

T.J. Steele and Jon Gaston each stole a base in the game to extend Arizona’s streak to 12 straight attempts without being caught ... Catcher Dwight Childs caught his fifth runner stealing in eight tries this season ... In 55 games last year Arizona had just one player hit two or more homers in game ... Brad Glenn and Bill Rhinehart have UA’s two other multi-homer games this season, both against Utah Valley State on Feb. 7 ... After issuing a season-high 12 walks to Arizona State on Tuesday, Preston Guilmet and Cory Burns went nine innings without giving up a free pass. It was the second game this season that Arizona has not walked a batter
