TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's golf coach Rick LaRose announced Thursday that two student-athletes have signed National Letters-of-Intent to attend the school and play golf. The duo will report to the school in the fall of 2010.
Tye Beall and Ben Esparza each signed letters during the November early signing period. Both are accomplished junior players.
"We're happy to have signed this class," said LaRose. "These guys have a track record of success and we look for them to come in help us."
Beall, a native of El Paso, Texas, has a win and three other top-15 finishes in American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) events. He won the 2008 Stars of Texas Junior presented by Horseshoe Bay Resort by eight strokes.
He preps at Hanks High School and plays for Coach Danny Lopez, and has twice qualified for the Texas state tournament. He was the 2009 Region 1-5A champion and earned El Paso golfer-of-the-year honors.
Esparza, a native of Tucson, Ariz., has a pair of top-20 finishes in AJGA events. His best finish was a tie for 13th place at the 2009 Golf World Preseason Junior at Marshallia Ranch.
He attends Ironwood Ridge High School and plays for Coach Ryan Bais. Esparza led the squad to the Arizona Class 5A-II state championship in 2008 with an 18-stroke victory. Individually, he finished in second place at five-under 139, including a final-round 66 (-6).
