Sophomore shortstop Kristie Fox was named a San Diego Hall of Champions Sports Museum “star of the month” by the Breitbard Athletic Association for June.
Fox, of Mt. Carmel High in San Diego, was a first-team All-America choice by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association this past year. She was the NCAA Division I leader with 1.12 RBI per game.
Fox helped lead the Wildcats to the Women’s College World Series early in June, and an final No. 4 national ranking. UA played strong down the stretch for a four-way tie for the Pac-10 title. Fox batted .356, with 64 RBI and nine home runs. She also earned first-team All-Pac-10 and All-Pacific Region honors. She was selected to the U.S. National Team tryout camp.
The San Diego Hall of Champions fetes athletes from the area in all sports, preps through the professional ranks.
Former UA running back Art Luppino, a national phenomenon for the Cats in the early 1950s, is among members of the Breitbard Hall of Fame, the showcase of the Hall of Champions. He was inducted in 1986.
