TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona Wildcat women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Pacific on Friday evening in the second game of the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort Cats Classic on Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.
Junior forward Renae Cuellar led Arizona (0-7-0) on shot attempts with four, including one she drilled from midfield that deflected off the crossbar in the second half. Arizona's three on-goal attempts all came from Cuellar, including the Wildcats' only shot of the first half.
Pacific (5-4-0) out shot Arizona 14-7 on the night, but both sides were even on corner kicks with five apiece.
"It's a disappointing loss, especially playing with one man down for most of the match," head coach Lisa Oyen said. "We did fight, but we were down, and it's difficult to come back when we have to push more of our numbers forward, leaving openings in the back end, and I think that Pacific's third goal really showed that. We just need to get better on our attack."
Up next, the Wildcats will take on Texas Tech in the final match of the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort Cats Classic on Sunday, September 18 at 6 p.m. on Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.
In the first match of the Cats Classic, Arizona State (3-4-0) lost to Texas Tech 5-0. All five Red Raider (5-3-0) goals were hit in the second half of the match, three within a ten-minute period. The Sun Devils will take to Murphey Field on Sunday to face Pacific at 11 a.m.
