No. 47 Arizona Men's Tennis Cruises Past Loyola Marymount
Tucson, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's tennis team bounce back from its four straight losses to defeat the Lions of LMU on Monday, 6-1. In their final match of a 10-match homestand, the Wildcats swept the matches in doubles competition, and only lost one match in singles play. The Cats are now 7-4 on the season.
On the singles side, playing in the first position, senior Steven Capriati topped Tigran Martirosyan, 6-3, 7-6(4). Sophomore Whi Kim bounced back from his last two and only losses on the season to defeat Leopold Graeubig in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, in the second spot. Junior Tom Lloyd, playing in the third slot, defeated Johannes Asuja, 7-6(2), 6-4. Sophomore Carl Hagman handled Anthony Evard, playing in the fourth position, 6-2, 6-3. Competing in the fifth spot, senior Bruno Arapovic won the match that clinched the win for the Wildcats. He downed Beau Berglund, 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Arnaud Agniel fell to Ryan Gerstner, 6-2, 7-6(2).
Arizona won all three doubles matches, therefore won the doubles point. The team of Capriati and Hagman won a tough match against Martirosyan and Graeubig, 9-8(5). In the second position, Lloyd and Kim took care of Asuja and Evard, 8-5. Freshman Colin O'Grady and Agniel beat Berglund and Gerstner, 9-8(0), competing in the third spot.
The Wildcats are back in action on Friday, March 8, at 1:30 p.m., when they face the Stanford Cardinal in Palo Alto.
