Tucson , Ariz. ?-?In their third home meet of the season and fifth conference meet, the No. 17 Arizona gymnastics team fell to No. 9 UCLA with a 196.050-196.575, making it their first loss of the season during a home meet.? The loss was bittersweet, however, as the score was the teamˇ?s season high.? It also was the teamˇ?s annual breast cancer awareness meet as the gymnasts wore pink leotards and passed out t-shirts to raise awareness.? The Wildcats are now 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the Pac-10.

ˇ?The team held tough tonight,ˇ± said head coach Bill Ryden, ˇ?we had our season high be we can still be better.ˇ±

The Cats began the night on vault with senior Karin Wurm scoring a 9.850, making it her season high and giving her fifth place. Senior Rachelle Silberg and sophomore Miranda Russell followed in sixth, both with a 9.825 while freshmen Colleen Fisher tied a personal record with a 9.800.

Following on the bars, the Cats grew strong with Wurm taking third place scoring a 9.900 and Junior Alexis Greene taking fourth with a 9.850, tying her personal best record.??Redshirt sophomore Sarah Specht also tied a personal best score of 9.825 giving her sixth place.

The Cats had a few slips on the beam, but senior Danielle Hicks managed to flawlessly take first place with a 9.875, tying her season high score for the event.??Wurm came in third place marking a 9.850, tying her season high as well.

ˇ?We had a frustrating beam, but we are getting betterˇ± Ryden said.

Finishing the night on floor, the team dominated as Wurm took first place while tying her personal best with a 9.900 and redshirt sophomore Sarah Specht set a personal best record with a 9.875, giving her second place. Alexis Greene also had a season high score of 9.825, marking her first full floor routine of the season after battling an Achilles injury since last season.

ˇ?The routine officially welcomed back Alexisˇ± head coach Bill Ryden stated after the meet.

Senior Karin Wurm won the all-around for the fourth meet in a row this season with a career high score of 39.500. Sophomore Miranda Russell followed in second place with a 38.450.

ˇ?It feels good after beating ASU last week, and now performing so well this week. We really are having people step up.ˇ±

The Wildcats will stay at McKale Center next week on Friday, Feb. 29th at 7:30 p.m. taking on Washington.
