Tucson, Ariz. ?- The Arizona women’s gymnastics team competed in their second intra-squad scrimmage of the preseason on Friday, Dec. 17, 2004.

The Wildcats rotated through two events, the bars and floor exercise, and were judged on their performances according to NCAA competition regulations on each event. On Monday, Dec. 6, the Wildcats performed on the vault and beam in a similar intra-squad scrimmage situation.

The Wildcats posted team scores of 49.0 on both the bars and floor exercise, respectively, despite being a bit shorthanded due to minor injuries.

“Overall I was happy with the performance of the team, but we are still not where we need to be for our first meet,” head coach Bill Ryden said. “It will really help us to have Monica Bisordi, Jamie Schell, Stevie Fanning and Danielle Hicks return to health.”

Seniors Bisordi and Schell led the Wildcats on the bars with scores of 9.9 respectively.  Neither competed on the floor exercise.

Senior Katie Johnson paced the Wildcats with a 9.9 performance on the floor exercise, while freshmen Rachelle Silberg and Karin Wurm each posted 9.8 marks.

“Katie once again showed that she is one of the best gymnasts in the country,” Ryden said. “Karin continues to improve from early setbacks and Rachelle has really made a positive impact with her work ethic and enthusiasm.”

The Wildcats will resume a regular practice schedule Monday, Dec. 27 in preparation for the first meet of the season Jan. 7, 2005, in Gainesville, Fla., at the Super Six Challenge.
