TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona Alumni team defeated the current squad in the 20th-annual All-Pro Alumni game held Sunday at Frank Sancet Field. The victory was the third straight for the Alumni and boosted their record to an impressive 13-3-2 all time. Guest manager Vida Blue improved to 1-0 in his coaching debut.
Troy Gingrich drove home former teammate Dennis Anderson with a two-out double in the bottom of the fourth for the game's lone run, and the Alumni pitching held the current team's bats in check by allowing only four hits in the seven inning exhibition.
The blustery conditions in Tucson could not keep the ball in the field during the Jim Click Home Run Derby held just prior to the game. The Alumni emerged victorious in the power competition as well, blasting 14 homers to the seven posted by the current team.
Former Wildcats J.T. Snow and Brian Becker tied for the individual home run title with six fence busters apiece.
The Wildcats will return to regular season action this week with their first road trip of the year. Arizona will head east to Texas to play a single game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday before heading to College Station to face Texas A&M in a three game series Friday-Sunday.
