Subirats Named Pac-10 Men?s Swimmer of the Month

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ?- Junior Albert Subirats has been named Pac-10 Men’s Swimmer of the Month for December, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced on Thursday, Jan. 11.


            Subirats, from Valencia, Venezuela, won four individual events after posting a new school record in both the 100 back (45.91) and the 100 fly (45.06) at the 2006

Texas Invitational on Nov. 30 - Dec. 2 in Austin, Texas.


            Subirats also won the 100 free with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 45.52, and went on to win the 50 free with a time of 19.54. In addition to his individual titles, Subirats swam on both first-place medley relay races.


            This is the first monthly honor for Subirats and Arizona’s first Swimmer of the Month Honor overall.


            The men’s and women’s teams will duel against Stanford today at 2 p.m. (MST) at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center and the women will battle No. 4 Cal on Saturday at 1 p.m.
