Head coach Niya Butts and the Arizona women’s basketball team will head to Denton, Texas to take on North Texas on Wednesday, Nov. 28. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. MST.

The Mean Green return three starters from the 2011-12 season, when the team had its second-best turnaround in school history. The team is led by BreAnna Dawkins and Alexis Hyder, averaging 13.4 and 12.0 points per game, respectively. Dawkins also leads the team in rebounding at 7.6 per game.

North Texas is led by first-year coach, Mike Petersen.

Arizona returns to Tucson for a short time after posting a 1-1 record at the Junkanoo Jam in The Bahamas. The Wildcats fell to UTEP, but bounced back with a 65-59 win over Texas Southern.

Senior Davellyn Whyte (Phoenix, Ariz.) led the team with 19 and 11 points in the games, earning her a spot on the All-Tournament team.

Junior Alli Gloyd (Phoenix, Ariz.) also had a successful showing at the tournament, posting a career-high 19 points versus Texas Southern and adding nine against UTEP.

Arizona and North Texas have met twice in the last two years, for  the sole matchups in history. Both contests were held in Tucson and the Wildcats hold a 2-0 advantage over the Mean Green.

In 2011, Arizona defeated North Texas, 69-62. Whyte led the Wildcats with 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field. She also had five rebounds, four assists and three steals in 31 minutes of play.
