The Arizona volleyball team hosts it second tournament in as many weekend when Texas State, Santa Clara and Texas Tech come to McKale for the Arizona Invitational which starts Friday, Sept. 5th.
The Wildcats open the tournament at 10 a.m. Friday against Texas State. The Bobcats (3-2) are coming off a 3-1 loss Tuesday to Baylor and finished second in their season opening tournament last weekend. This will be the first match-up between the two schools.
Arizona then takes on Santa Clara later in the day at 7:00 p.m. The Broncos (1-1) are just on the cusp of the top-25, listed in the others receiving votes. Coming off a 1-1 split last weekend in Utah, Santa Clara and Arizona renew a series that left off in 2005.
Closing out the tournament, the Wildcats take on Texas Tech at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The Red Raiders just won the Mean Green Classic last weekend and sit at 3-0. Texas Tech has never beaten Arizona with an all-time series record of 0-5-2.
Sandwiched in between the Arizona games, Santa Clara and Texas Tech play Friday at noon, Texas Tech and Texas State play Friday at 5:00 p.m. and Texas State and Santa Clara play Saturday at 10:00 a.m. All matches will be played at McKale Center. Admissions to all but the Santa Clara vs. Arizona match Friday night are free.
The Wildcats are coming off a 3-0 finish in the Wildcat Classic last weekend, a tournament that saw Arizona win all nine sets it appeared.
After the Arizona Invitational, the Wildcats travel to Bakersfield, Calif. to play in the CSBU Bakersfield Invitational Sept. 12th and 13th.
