TUCSON--Arizona edged Northwestern in extra innings, 4-3, in its third game of the Pepsi Classic tournament on Saturday. The Cats walked away with a win thanks to a two-run homer in the eighth inning by senior Jackie Coburn.

Arizona put two runs on the board in the top of the first to jump to an early lead. Freshman Caitlin Lowe started the action with a leadoff single, then scored on a fielder's choice to second by sophomore Kristie Fox in a close play at the plate. Fox also scored on a single up the middle by Coburn.

Northwestern put a run on the board in the fifth, when junior Sheila McCorkle walked and scored on an RBI single to short by freshman Stephanie Churchwell. NU tied the game in the sixth, when Arizona pitcher Alicia Hollowell gave up a homer to sophomore Garland Cooper.

The score stayed tied until the eighth inning, when with a runner of second due to international tiebreaking rules, Coburn went yard high over the left field fence, putting the Cats up, 4-2. In Northwestern's half of the eighth, with a runner on second, Churchwell doubled to left, scoring one. But with the bases loaded and two out, Hollowell got McCorkle to ground to short, ending the game with the Cats on top.

Arizona defeated Oklahoma State in its second game on Saturday, 4-1. Junior Leslie Wolfe got the win for the Cats, pitching five innings before Hollowell took the mound to finish off the game.

Again, the Cats struck early, putting a pair of runs on the board in the first inning. Sophomore Autumn Champion walked to get on base, and sophomore Kristie Fox homered to put Arizona up, 2-0.

Oklahoma State answered in the second inning, when sophomore Courtney Totte walked and scored on a single by junior Ashleigh Tweed.

Arizona added its final two runs in the fifth, when Lowe singled and stole second, then came home on an RBI single up the middle by Fox. Fox scored on an Oklahoma error to put Arizona up for good, 4-1.
