TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona's Men's Golf JV Team carded a 907 (+43) to finish seventh in the Anteater Invitational. The tournament was won by host UC Irvine, which shot a 875 (+11) to cruise to a crushing 18 stroke victory. Geoff Gonzales of Cal Poly won the tournament individually with his score of 212 (-4).

The top four teams heading into the day held their places in the ten team event. UC Irvine continued their domination of the tournament, picking up a wire-to-wire win. 18 shots below the Anteaters was UTEP, which shot a 302 (+14) in the third round, bringing their total to 893 (+29). Also shooting a 302 in the final round, CSU-Northridge finished three shots behind UTEP. Sacramento State finished fourth with its 898 (+34) performance. Loyola Marymount and Cal Poly were tied for sixth heading into the day. Each team shot a 303 (+15) on day three, keeping their scores identical. The two moved into fifth when former fifth place Arizona struggled in the third round, shooting a 309 (+21).

John Chin of UC Irvine led the tournament by three strokes heading into the final day, but slipped in the final round, shooting a 75 (+3). This mishap made way for Gonzalez, who shot a 70 (-2) today, to take the two stroke victory; Chin finished second. Scott Clayton of UC Riverside had the best round of anyone in the third round, improving him from sixth to third for the tournament. Three strokes behind Clayton was Nick Delio of Cal State Northridge in fourth. Sacramento State's Grant Norton finished fifth at 221 (+5).

Andrew Kelly earned his first top ten finish of his career, shooting a 224 (+8). Kelly finished tenth, two strokes better than Philip Bagdade, who finished just outside of the top 20. Bagdade finished in a six-way tie for 21st. Tom Conran shot a 230 (+14) and finished tied for 29th . Nick Park, who was tied for 11th when he teed off this morning, carded a 82 (+10) in the third round, dropping him 20 spots on the leader board. Peter Ireland tied for 39th in the event.

The Anteater Invitational was contested at El Niguel Country Club, a par 72, 7,016 yard course in Laguna Niguel, California.

The JV team will be in action again next week when they will participate in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic April 6 and 7 in Scottsdale, Ariz. for the final tournament of their season. The Varsity will partake in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational next week, April 10 and 11 before beginning post-season play.
