TUCSON - Katie Shimon's second three-run home run of the game put an end to a see-saw softball game in the top of the seventh and propelled Drake to an 9-4 victory over Virginia in Game Three of the Worth Wildcat Invitational Friday afternoon.

Shimon followed first-inning singles by Lauren Smith and Brook Buchanan with a home run to left center to give Drake a 3-0 lead.

Virginia cut it to 3-1 with a run-scoring single by Hannah Owings in the bottom of the first, then later Owings led off the UVA fourth with a single and was driven home by Jenn Wynn's double to left-center to make it 3-2. The Cavaliers tied the game when Wynn was sacrificed to third then scored on pitcher Joanna Barstad's infield single.

Drake took the lead in the fifth on an RBI double by Smith, but Virginia answered with an unearned run when Owens singled in Ruby Rojas, who reached base on an error, in the UVA half of the inning.

Drake got back on top with one hit in the top of the sixth, when Virginia twice failed to get the lead runner on fielder's choice plays and Kristin Moeller hit a sacrifice fly to score Mollie Daniels. Shimon's home run and another sacrifice fly finished the scoring in the seventh.
