The Arizona soccer team (7-4) defeated Santa Clara (3-7-2) 2-0 Sunday afternoon snapping their two-game losing streak. In Arizona's last non-conference game of the season, the Wildcats defeated the Broncos who have not won a game since Sept. 7 against Cal State Fullerton.
Arizona started the attack early with a goal in the first minute by junior forward JASMINE NAMDAR, who scored her first goal of the season and fifth in her career.
"Any time you go on the road to a storied program like (Santa Clara) and get a win it's huge," head coach Dan Tobias said. "We were very persistent. We kept the ball in front of us and created chances."
Sophomore LEILA AMINI added the final knock out punch in the 87th minute when she added her second goal of the season.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Chelsea McIntyre continues to be a force registering her fifth shutout of the season. McIntyre finished the game with five saves.
Up next for Arizona is in-state rival Arizona State this Friday in Tempe. The Sun Devils had a bye this weekend and have not played a game since a victory over Long Beach State on Step. 28.
"This was a good way to end the non-conference," Tobias said. "Now we need to focus our attention on another tough Pac-10 conference."
