TUCSON, Ariz. ?C In the third and final day of the Texas Invitational, the No. 4 Arizona womenˇ?s swimming team finished in first place with a total of 859 points. The No. 2 Arizona menˇ?s swimming team finished in second place with 610.5 points. The University of Texas won the invitational with 704 points.
The first event of the day was the 1650 free. Arizona had two NCAA consideration times. The two swimmers were Joni Keith (16:25.93) and Susana Helms (16:43.27). Arizonaˇ?s Matt Biel swam a 15:26.70, which was good enough for a consideration time.
In the womenˇ?s 200 yard backstroke, Arizona qualified two swimmers with NCAA automatic times. Those two swimmers were: Caitlin Iversen (1:55.76) and Kathryn Thompson (1:57.29). Arizona also had many swimmers post NCAA consideration times. Those swimmers included: Jenny Forster (1:57.54), Andrea Boritzke (1:57.45), Carley Beaudreau (2:00.03) and Hailey DeGolia (1:58.96). The men also did very well in this event. Swimmers Cory Chitwood (1:43.15) and Albert Subirats (1:43.21) posted NCAA automatic times. Jake Tapp (1:44.59) and Bryan Oˇ?Connor (1:44.20) posted NCAA consideration times.
In the womenˇ?s 100 yard free Taylor Baughman (49.13), Courtney Cashion (49.17), Anna Turner (49.20), Lindsey Kelly (49.27) and Justin Schluntz (49.34) all posted NCAA automatic qualifying times. Lara Jackson (49.53), Emma Darlington (49.75), Leone Vorster (50.02) and Brady Collins (50.61) were all good enough times for an NCAA consideration. The men had four NCAA consideration times. The four swimmers were: Nicolas Nilo (43.60), Jordan Smith (43.67), Darian Townsend (43.54) and Joel Greenshields (44.23).
Annie Chandler (2:11.62) and Jacquelyn Craft (2:13.29) posted NCAA automatic times in the 200 yard breaststroke. Jessica Embick had an NCAA consideration time of 2:16.21. On the menˇ?s side of things, senior Albert Subirats posted a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 1:56.81. Jack Brown (1:58.64), Ivan Barnes (1:59.26), Tom Cole (1:59.58) and Josh Arreguin (1:59.63) posted NCAA consideration times.
In the 200 yard butterfly simmers Ana Agy (1:59.07), Dana Christ (1:59.25) and Jenny Forster (2:02.20) all posted NCAA consideration times.
In the 400 yard relay the womenˇ?s team of Anna Turner, Courtney Cashion, Taylor Baughman and Emma Darlington posted an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 3:16.10. The menˇ?s team of Albert Subirats, Nicolas, Nilo, Darian Townsend and Joel Greenshields also posted a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 2:52.08.
Up Next- The women will take on OSU, NAU and Washington on the Jan. 4, 2008 while the men will take on Washington and SMU at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center in Tucson, Ariz.
