TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona softball team was defeated by Pima College on Sunday in the final game of the Arizona Fall Classic tournament. Pima's 2-0 shutout of the Wildcats followed Arizona's 8-0, five-inning shutout of the Hum-Babe Cats.

Sophomore pitcher Alicia Hollowell pitched two innings versus Hum-Babe, striking out all six batters she faced. Senior Wendy Allen relieved Hollowell in the third inning, allowing no runs on two hits and striking out six.

Junior Jackie Coburn hit a grand slam in the first inning to put the Cats up 5-0. Freshman shortstop Kristie Fox hit her first homer of the tournament in the third inning, a three-run shot that gave Arizona an eight-run lead.

In the final game of the Fall Classic, Hollowell turned in a strong pitching performance, striking out 14 batters in seven innings and allowing three hits.

The game stayed scoreless until the top of the sixth, when Pima scored a pair of runs on three hits. The Wildcats threatened in the bottom half of the sixth, with a leadoff single by junior Jennifer Martinez and a walk by junior centerfielder Crystal Farley. Sophomore Autumn Champion laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners, but the Cats failed to score in the inning.

Arizona threatened again in the bottom of the seventh with a one-out single by Coburn, but Pima ended the game with a double play. Arizona finished the Fall Classic with a 4-1 record.
