Cory Zirbel joined the staff as offensive graduate assistant in December 2011. He works with UA assistant Jim Michalczik and the offensive line.

He was a scholarship player as an offensive lineman at Michigan from 2005-09. He redshirted his true freshman year in 2005, played in 11 games at tackle and on special teams in 2006, and all 13 games in 2007 as a guard and a member of the kicking units. He was backup to UM consensus All-American Jake Long in 2006.

Before his fourth year, a knee condition cut his playing career short. Instead, he served Rich Rodriguez’s offensive staff as a volunteer student assistant in 2009 and was hired as an offensive quality control staff member in 2010. In 2011, Zirbel worked for the Michigan Athletic Department.

Zirbel lettered at UM in 2007 and 2008 and earned a University of Michigan Academic Achievement honor in 2006 and 2009. He earned his degree in general studies with an emphasis in sociology in 2009. He is working on a master’s in educational psychology at Arizona.

He played at Murray High School in Kentucky where he was the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2004. His twin brother, Cody, is in the U.S. Marine Corps. Zirbel and his wife, Jakki, were married in July 2013.
