Cory Zirbel is in his third season as an offensive graduate assistant at Arizona. He works primarily with the offensive line while assisting with all facets of the offense. He joined Arizona’s staff in December 2011.

Zirbeel was a scholarship player and two-time letterwinner (2007, 2008) as an offensive lineman at Michigan from 2005-09. He redshirted his true freshman year in 2005, played in 11 games at tackle and on special teams in 2006, and all 13 games in 2007 as a guard and a member of the kicking units. He was a backup to UM consensus All-American Jake Long in 2006.

Before his fourth year, a knee condition cut his playing career short. Instead, he served Rich Rodriguez’s offensive staff as a volunteer student assistant in 2009 and was hired as an offensive quality control staff member in 2010. In 2011, Zirbel worked for the Michigan Athletic Department.

Zirbel earned University of Michigan Academic Achievement honors in 2006 and 2009. He earned his degree in general studies with an emphasis in sociology in 2009 and is working on a master’s in educational psychology at Arizona. He played at Murray High School in Kentucky where he was the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2004.

Zirbel and his wife, Jakki, were married in July 2013. His twin brother, Cody, is in the U.S. Marine Corps.
