2012-13: Won the 50 breast with an incredible U.S. Open record time of 27.33...Finished second place in 100 breast at NCAAs with a time of 51.69, just behind teammate Kevin Cordes' NCAA Record time...Finished 28th in the 200 breast at NCAAs...Was 13th in the 100 breast and 19th in the 200 breast at the Pac-12 Championships. 

2011-12: Earned third-place finishes in the 100 breast and the 200 free relay versus No. 15 Iowa...Posted an NCAA "B" cut in the 100 breast at the Texas Invite...Recorded fourth-place finishes in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay versus No. 8 USC...Finished fourth in the 100 breast and fifth in the 200 breast versus Wisconsin.

2010-11: Recorded the fourth-fastest 100 breaststroke time on the team with a 53.58, just missing the NCAA cut line in the event...Was fifth-fastest on the team in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:02.24...At the Pac-10 Championships in Long Beach, Calif., Steel was 23rd overall in the 50 free (20.48), 10th in the 100 breast (53.83) and 16th in the 200 breast after seeking an NCAA cut time over the first 100 yards in the race.
