Buffano became UA's defensive graduate assistant in July 2008, after working for three years as a video graduate assistant and behind-the-scenes student assistant in the operations side of the program.

Buffano works closely with defensive coordinator and secondary coach Mark Stoops, helping primarily with defensive backs. He coaches the offensive scout team, breaks down game films and helps develop weekly game plans, plus evaluates film of prospective student-athletes.

As video assistant he helped break down opponents' videotapes, worked with coaches on the weekly game plan and helped evaluate film of prospective student-athletes. His earlier work at UA involved helping fulltime staff coordinate the coaches clinic, football camps and team travel, plus training table, ticket distribution and academic performance ratings.

A native of Ohio, Buffano began his coaching career at his alma mater as an assistant coach at Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, from 1990 to 1996. He worked with running backs and defensive backs at the noted Catholic school, where Mike and Mark Stoops played and where their brother, Ron, is defensive coordinator.

Buffano earned a bachelor's degree in geography and regional development from Arizona in December 2006. He attended Youngstown State for two years in the early 1990s and was in private business in Ohio and Florida before first joining the UA program as a student football manager in 2004.

Buffano and his wife, Kelley, have a daughter, Isabella, born in January 2008.
