Oyen Announces Hiring of Associate Head Coach

Arizona head soccer coach Lisa Oyen has announced the hiring of Tim Bennett as associate head coach of the Wildcats.

Tim Bennett enters his second season as an associate head soccer coach at Arizona after spending the past three years as a staff coach for the Dallas Texans Soccer Club. Previously, Bennett served as the associate head coach for the Iowa State women's soccer team in 2008 and was the head women's soccer coach at Portland State for three seasons and at North Dakota for one season.

At Arizona, Bennett's primary responsibilities will be to oversee the program's recruiting efforts and work with goalkeepers. Bennett will also lead the video and game analysis aspects of the program.

Bennett began his stint as staff coach for the Dallas Texans Soccer Club in the Elite Clubs National League in March of 2009. With the Texans, Bennett was directly responsible for coach/training three teams while assisting on three additional teams. Duties included the technical and tactical development and cultivation of future student-athletes, as well as assisting players and families during the college recruiting process.

With the Texans, Bennett has helped coach teams to two state cup victories, two Region II championships, two Disney Showcase championships, three national championship appearances and most recently the U19 USYSA National Championship.

Prior to his time with the Texans, Bennett was the associate head coach at Iowa State in 2008. With the Cyclones, Bennett recruited one of the most decorated classes in school history and was responsible for several other key aspects of the program, including budgeting, scheduling, compliance and academics.

Before coaching at Iowa State, Bennett has a successful three years as the head coach at Portland State. Bennett's teams produced some of the most accomplished seasons in program history, including a school record 12 wins over his three-year tenure.

Under Bennett's guidance, Portland State produced 18 All-Big Sky selections, including five first-team members, along with 29 Academic All-Big Sky honor roll performers. The 2006 recruiting class ranked first in the Big Sky and 22nd in the West Region.

Bennett's first collegiate head coaching opportunity was at North Dakota in 2004. In his only season, Bennett led the Fighting Sioux to a 14-5-2 overall record.

In his four combined seasons as a head coach, Bennett compiled a coaching mark of 30-39-7 and coached five all-region and 10 first-team all-conference performers. He has also coached three conference MVP winners, including Portland State defender Juli Edwards, who was the Big Sky Conference Defensive MVP in both 2006 and 2007.

Prior to being a head coach, Bennett served eight seasons as an assistant coach at Kentucky. He was an assistant for the men's program from 1996-99 and the women's team from 1999-2003. He helped lead his teams to a 60-32-7 overall mark, four NCAA Tournament appearances and the highest national rankings in school history (No. 9 in 2000 and 2001).
