Former Wildcat letterman Matt Brase was promoted to assistant coach on Nov. 7, 2008, after spending the previous two seasons as UA's administrative assistant/video coordinator.

Brase, 26, returned to the Arizona program after playing for the Wildcats from 2003-05. Since graduation in 2005, Brase was employed by Hamilton Aerospace Technologies. During the summer of 2006, he was the assistant coordinator of the Arizona Cactus Classic, a national AAU tournament.

"I'm excited to be a full-time assistant coach," said Brase. "Having the opportunity to do that at Arizona just makes it more meaningful."

Brase helped the Cats win 50 games playing for his grandfather, Lute Olson, where he averaged 0.7 points and 0.5 rebounds in 26 appearances during his collegiate career. He posted career-high totals of four points and four rebounds against Oregon on Feb. 20, 2005, his final McKale Center appearance. He graduated in May of 2005 with a degree in business management. He is a member of Phi Beta Lambda and Phi Theta Kappa.

Prior to his Arizona career, Brase played two seasons at Central Arizona College, where he earned all-region and honorable mention all-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference honors and helped the Vaqueros to the 2002 NJCAA national finals in Hutchinson, Kan. He averaged 14.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game as a sophomore.
