TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's tennis team won five out of six singles matches on the way to a 5-2 victory over UC Santa Barbara Saturday at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. The Cats are now 2-2, overall and the Gauchos fall to 1-1.

In singles play the Cats won five matches and lost at the No. 1 spot, where junior Alex Aybar fell to Simon Shen, 7-5, 6-2.

Senior's Jean-Noel LaCoste and Michel Stopa both earned wins. LaCoste beat Marcin Kosakowski, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 2 position, and Stopa defeated Mike Ortiz, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot.

Sophomore Caleb Marquardt beat John Stweart, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot, while freshman Tom Lloyd defeated David Angert, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 5 position.

Earning a win at the No. 6 spot was senior Alex Brown. Brown defeated Mario Pepe, 6-3, 6-4.

UCSB swept the Wildcats in doubles play. Aybar and LaCoste fell to Shen and Kosakowski, 8-5, while Brown and Lloyd fell short to Ortiz and Sandy Gentile, 8-6. Stewart and Mike Rodrigues defeated Stopa and Marquardt, 8-4.

The Wildcats will be back in action Monday, Feb. 7, at noon, at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center against Utah.
