The University of Arizona No. 22 men's and No. 6 women's track and field teams opened up competition at the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday.
Sophomore Baillie Gibson won the women's discus throw competition and senior Alyssa Hasslen won the women's shot put competition.
The No. 20 men's and No. 3 women's track and field teams will send a small contingent of student-athletes to compete at the ASU Invitational in Tempe.
Competition at the MPSF Championships resumes on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. PST.
The No. 14 men's and No. 11 women's track and field teams will begin competition on Friday at 12 p.m. PST and at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
BEFORE ARIZONA: Timpe attended Western Washington University for two years ... He holds the indoor school record in the 800 meters, clocking a time of 1:53.03 ... His personal-best time in the 1,500-meter race is 3:53.03 ... He was a member of their 2012 conference championship team ... Holds the No. 9 time in outdoor school history for the 800 meters and No. 7 in outdoor school history 1,500 meters.
HIGH SCHOOL: A graduate of Hornet High School, Timpe was the team captain in 2010 and the team MVP in 2009 and 2010 ... Timpe was the league and district runner-up his senior year ... He earned a seventh-place finish at the Washington State Championship in the 800-meter race ... He was a member of the National Honor Society and a scholar athlete from 2008-10.
PERSONAL: He is the son of Philip and Sue Ellen Timpe and he was born in Maple Valley, Wash. ... He has one brother, Miles ... He is pursuing a degree in political science and is considering attending law school.
