Arizona: On many other top teams in 2001, Gladding would have been the star pitcher or hitter her freshman year, but her value to the Cats was impressive and she'll get the opportunities to emerge in 2002... In 2001 she turned in a pitching record of 14-2 with an earned run average of 0.92 and hit .357 batting in the seventh or ninth hole... Played in 33 games, with seventeen starts in the circle and another as designated player... Gladding threw her first career no-hitter in five innings against Indiana State in March, then two days later threw another in seven innings against Creighton... Gladding struck out 148 batters and only allowed 47 hits... Struckout a team season-high 15 batters in a 4-2 NCAA tournament victory over Saint Peter's and led the team with 10.5 strikeouts per seven innings pitched... Posted a 1-1 mark in league play with a 3-0 loss to UCLA and a run-rule victory over Washington, 9-0... On a team dotted with prolific sluggers who helped UA set an NCAA home run record, as a hitter Gladding recorded the highest slugging percentage -- .911 -- with nine home runs and four doubles among 20 hits... Her first home run was a pinch-hit solo effort against Texas early in the year, then her next was a two-run pinch-hit blast the next day against LSU... She drove in three runs on three hits including two home runs against Indiana State to go with the no-hit game... Gladding also had a batting average of .357... Hit nine home runs and had 15 RBI...
