TUCSON - The University of Arizona Wildcat men's and No. 7 women's track and field teams wrapped up the first day of competition at the Tucson Elite Classic. Arizona is hosting the meet at Roy P. Drachman Stadium. Arizona had six athletes compete on the first day of competition.
In the women's hammer throw, senior Taylor Freeman posted a mark of 194-7 (59.30m) and took 12th place. That toss was the second-best mark of Freeman's career. In the men's hammer throw, senior Tyler Johnson threw 189-10 (57.86m) and took fifth place.
Sophomore Baillie Gibson threw 179-3 (54.64m) in the women's discus competition, good for eighth place. Freeman's mark of 174-10 (53.28m) was good for ninth place overall. Senior Alyssa Hasslen threw 169-10 (51.76m). In the women's shot put, junior Omotayo Talabi earned a first-place finish with a toss of 50-7.25 (15.42m). Senior Asia Easley threw the javelin and took third place with a mark of 138-6 (42.23m).
The second day of competition will begin at 4 p.m. MST on Saturday.
